Sophie School (Julia Jentsch) is a young coed who transforms into a rebellious activist during the Nazi regime of WWII. In 1943, a group of college students gathered to create a Munich-based underground movement in resistance to Hitler’s brutal assault on Europe. They called themselves the White Rose and dedicated themselves to defeating the Third Reich war machine. On a dangerous mission to disseminate pamphlets across campus, Sophie is captured by the Gestapo. She is interrogated incessantly but she refuses to bend, claiming loyalty to the White Rose and to her convictions. In the heat of the cross-examination Sophie commands attention, delivering a fervent call to personal responsibility and, of course, to freedom.
