Jessie McMullen (Sean Connery) is a septuagenarian in "Family Business" who has lived his whole life scamming and robbing people. His son Vito (Dustin Hoffman) used to commit crimes with his father in his younger days, but he is now making an honest living at a meat packing plant. Vito's son Adam (Matthew Broderick) is a college student with a very bright future. Despite Adam's being the grandson of the dishonest Jessie, Adam has never shown any interest in crime. But one day Adam meets with his grandfather in a local New York City bar to discuss a get-rich-quick scheme. It involves stealing some genetic research data from a lab. Jessie is all for it, but his father Vito is furious at his father for encouraging Adam to risk his freedom by committing this crime. The family breaks into the laboratory with ease, but on the way out, Adam realizes he left something behind and he has to go back in the building to retrieve it. The alarm goes off, with Adam still inside the building, and he is arrested for the burglary. Vito wants to come clean immediately and tell the authorities that he and Jessie were also involved. Adam does not give them up, and Jessie does not want to go back to jail. What will the family decide to do? Will any of them have to serve jail time?
